A year to celebrate those that refuse to give up. At the close I raise my cup to those that simply won’t go away, won’t divert from their own path, who pursue their dreams and visions with gusto. Hoisting my toast and tipping my sombrero to all the athletes that endured another uncertain, covid filled calendar. And still managed to train and focus and compete.
Our 2021 Two Rivers Winter Fitness Series all going virtual. —We are back to live, in person racing starting this Saturday and the Rust Buster 5K.
In April the Nebraska Trail Run was conducted virtually for the 2nd year in a row. Our planned 10K at Platte River State Park canceled by the state’s restrictions on gathering. In a triumphant return we would host it in November at Lake Wanahoo, Nebraska Trail Run, “Run The Prairie.” It was put together in less than 30 days and we ended up with ~150 runners celebrating with us.
Also in April, we finally fired the cannon at the Valley ONE Marathon & Half Marathon. 4 years in the making. Against seemingly impossible odds including near biblical flooding, a pandemic, and two bumps in the road- efforts to wrest the event into other hands. All preamble to a historic morning that found 12 Nebraska soil records established from 5K to the Marathon. We were happy to host the deepest, fastest fields ever assembled in Nebraska for 13.1 and 26.2 racing. Our women’s half marathon field setting 4 of the top 10 American marks in the U.S. for 2021, Steph Bruce’s 1:09:55 taking 8 minutes off the Nebraska state record. Vianey de la Rosa’s 2:30:02 taking a whopping twelve minutes off of the women’s state marathon record. On a cold, windy, late *April morning, our bona fide professional field and completely closed road course re-writing 40 years of Nebraska long distance racing. **For 2022, we are moving to a more favorable mid -May date.
Valley ONE, providing the perfect course for all runners looking to run to their potential!
Looking forward to a great 2022, not for the last time, Giddyup!
