I am marveling that my training partner ran 175 miles the last two weeks. I’m running some of it with her including an easy 6 this morning. We discussed yesterday’s group run and came to the conclusion that there is one common shared trait: Attitude.
That is an intangible that seems prevalent across our mates. I won’t get into a long discourse about the difference between those that have it and those that don’t, suffice it to say that I’ll take those with it every day of the week.
I tried to tell one of the young ladies that she was a rockstar, that she was awesome, that she deserved a woot woot or a fun whistle. She looked at me like I needed my head examined or maybe wanted to knock some sense into it. She has worked hard so she can race her very best ever marathon, period, stuff the accolades. Attitude. Man I wish I could bottle that stuff.
Living History Farms registration is open, and soon to fill and close. Our Team Nebraska Open Men have won the team competition the last couple of years, its up to me to find a way to get them interested enough for a three-peat. Matt Pohren was the 2011 LHF Overall Male. He is the only Nebraskan to ever claim that title, he needs no motivation to go back and defend his crown. We are starting to look at USA Club Cross Country National Championships on December 8th in Lexington, KY. Maybe that will get the mates fired up. Attitude.
The Big Blue Run 5K featured some great performances. Luka Thor‘s winning time of 15:41 is the new official course/event record. Megan Zavorka‘s 18:31 the same for women. Maureen Larsen set a masters mark that will be chased for awhile, 19:10. But perhaps the race of the day went to 11 year old Mazie Larsen who finished 6th overall in 19:36. I’m going to suggest that this is a Nebraska state record for an eleven year old female. Maybe Karlene or Roxi Erickson did something similar way back in the day? Meredith Snow?
Chicago Marathon and Twin Cities Marathon coming up this weekend. Agustin Delgado will be running Chicago, he deserves the perfect weather forecast. Cory Logsdon is in the men’s elite field at TCM, he’s looking to put his name at the top of our 2012 men’s marathon list. Attitude.
