Willkomen! Bienvenue! Welcome! A fresh new year and a fresh new start. 2012 is already off and running for most of us, but not me. In the “no good deed goes unpunished” category I sprained my ankle at the Hair of the Dog Run on Sunday (speaking of which I just delivered 300 lbs of food to the Food Bank). A single mis-step into a hole from the standing position and I’m on the shelf for a few days. The swelling is down but not my spirits. Looking forward to getting out later this week when the temps are back into the 50s.
A lot of lofty goals and big challenges for Team Nebraska this year. Never far from our minds will be July and the Club T&F Champs. But there is always plenty of cloud chasing and bee counting to be done. We’ll start that tomorrow night at our first road race management committee meeting of the year. Looking forward to bringing some new twists to our old events and continuing the growth of our new ones.
The savvy eye has already noticed some changes with Team Nebraska. It is with much gratitude and appreciation that we have ended our 9 year title sponsorship with Brooks Running. While they will still be supporting many of the Good Mates on an individual basis, they have had a shift in business model that takes them largely away from Club Sponsorships. It has been a Very Good run and we could not have made the leap to the highest echelons of USATF Elite Development Clubs without their kind support over the years. As always, we’ll continue to “Run Happy” whenever possible.
I hope you have had a chance to check some of the youtube videos featuring Desi Davila’s preparation for the right-around-the-corner Olympic Trials Marathon. Keith & Kevin Hanson have done things exactly right guiding her training and I’m picking her to win in 11 days. A lot of different training and coaching approaches for a lot of different athletes, most of us feel that Desi’s has been spot on.
Let me be the first to wish all of you a hearty Giddyup as you begin the pursuit of your own races and goals for 2012!
