Less than 180 seconds and done. Release. Gone. Chris Brasher and Chris Chataway set the table for Roger Bannister sixty years ago today. Made sure he would never be forgotten. They too deserve to be remembered.
I’m anxious for the movie “UNBROKEN” to come out. The story of Louis Zamperini, if not for Twist of Fate, surely would have beaten Bannister through the four minute barrier. Inexplicably I’ve never read the book, hey Coach John, can I borrow yours?
Congratulations to all of our Nebraska Run Guru Elite athletes that raced this weekend. Recognizing Michel Davy up front. Her trip to the great Northwest proved a perfect exercise in tempering steel. Bloomsday 12K, 6:25 pace for a hilly 7.495 miles, spot on. Next up Boystown.
Some well earned post race refreshments!
Pete and Jerrod and Walt and Kyle and Cameron. And Agustin. And Andre. And Ron. Proud as hell of our 8 men that entered the USATF Nebraska Association Marathon Championships. Proud too of Tammy Consbruck (1:40:23) and Stacy Shaw (1:32:50, 1st 45-49, 2nd master) on their fine races in the Half.
I wasn’t at all surprised that Cameron followed up his 2:31 at Boston with 2:34 at Lincoln. He was the First Nebraska Finisher in both races. He’ll get a couple of more races in before moving to Boston in June for his residency. We’ll miss him dearly.
Mean, Green, and Clean. That’s how Jerrod rolls. He ran a fine 2:44 despite spending 3 minutes in a porta can. You savvy?
El Presidente! Kyle also ran a huge personal best of 2:49. Don’t you dig the wide range of colors the NRGE kit encompasses?
Pete tore the hell out of the roads leading up to Sunday. Remember what I said Friday about it not being your day? It wasn’t his. Four bathroom breaks and two projectile vomiting episodes didn’t allow his best effort but 2:53 ain’t bad considering. Pete will be gearing up to Badwater for the foreseeable future.
My boy Andre has no quit in him. A blister within a blister, the size of a small boys head.
Thanks to Gary Dougherty for the action shots. Plenty more coming over the next few days.
More revelations manana!
