It stops right here at my desk. Thanks to everyone that has taken time to reach out with suggestions/critiques on how to better accommodate the explosive growth of the Trail Runs. Your sentiments are taken to heart and our committee, and will be implemented for the improvement and continued popularity of the event.
Sara Garcia not only won the 12K, she showed up 2 hours early and worked packet pick up. Bryan Felker showed that great marathon training translates into enough strength to dispatch a strong field of experienced trail runners. Nora Youngs was not only the first female but the first overall finisher in the 4 Mile. Ten year old Landen Flyinghawk was 7th, keep your eyes open for this young man in the future.
We had runners from Bogota, Columbia; Great Britain, American Samoa, and Canada. These trail runners are truly a special breed.
ICONS: The Trail Runs have a trio of icons.
1. Ivan Marsh. Nebraska’s best trail runner and vertical guy, a real treasure.
2. The Course. It has become a test of toughness and assumed an aura of accomplishment few other races can boast of.
3. Barefoot Benny. He not only appeared on the race t shirt but also manned the Barefoot Benny Beer Stop & Granola Bar at the 3 mile mark.
We had other mates busy on the track last week at the Vance Butler Invitational.
Shannon Stenger doubled in the 800 (2:00.60) and the 1500 (4:02.30).
Andrew Jacob ran the 800 (2:03.59).
Matt Schneider ran the Steeplechase (9:28.52).
Christina King ran the 200 under :26
Aubrey Baxter won the Hammer in 62.92 meters
Matt Heesch ran the 5000 in 16:12
And at Northwest Missouri Randal Carter won the High Jump in 7′ .5″
