Stop here if you have tender sensibilities.
I was speaking with one of the top high school cross country coaches in the country this morning. Lyle Dorjahn is the coach of the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Knights, powerhouse in Central Illinois, Coach of the Year. Nebraska Run Guru proudly contributes to the Knights, my former high school.
The topic was thin clads. Lyle is taking 5 fellas against the state this year, no margin for error. He’s developed the program through toughness, fairness and discipline.
I shared our Nebraska kick off to the cross country season. I brought up what will likely strike some nerves locally. The trend of high school runners posing for cameras during a meet. Flexing biceps for the photographers, during the race!
I asked Lyle if he would bench a runner for a meet if he saw such shenanigans. With only 5 guys, his response was today’s three word title.
CHEW SOME ASS
Shame on me! 2011 Fremont Turkey Trot 5 Mile, acting the fool.
