Well Howdy! Congratulations to my buddy of the last 60 years! Lyle Dorjahn was named the Illinois Cross Country Coach of the Year. His work with the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond (ALAH) Knights rewarded with the highest of accolades. What is so remarkable about this is his status as a debutante to the coaching ranks. The self professed “retired hog farmer”, in his very first year of coaching, brought that something extra to his charges. Less than 10 boys and 7 girls in the program, that is worth noting. Getting the very best out of each.
Senior team leader Layton Hall was named Illinois Class A ‘ Most Improved Runner. And in a top to bottom approach, Layton’s mate Jacob Adcock was named the Illinois Class A Boys “#5 Runner of the Year”.
Well done Coach, well done!
Atwood, Illinois has a population of 1100. Lyle has been able to motivate some seriously farm strong youngsters to unparalleled accomplishments, adorning the trophy case at ALAH, inspiring generations to come!
