Things are getting interesting. The closer we get to Boston, Oklahoma City, and the Lincoln Marathon, the higher the heat gets turned up in the training cycle.
Cameron Cummings just polished off a 130 mile week in the hills of Virginia. One of the more talented and interesting cats I’ve ever worked with.
What makes me Most Glad this morning: I heard from Walter Key late last night. He had read about the vaunted Ball Buster on Monday and realized that I had only prescribed my customary “1/2 Ball Buster” for today’s workout. The full is not something to be entered into lightly. He fairly pleaded for the opportunity to tackle the whole enchilada. Permission granted soldier! Damned proud of you Walt!

And so it will continue to go with the athletes that I coach. I will always challenge them, and when they rise to that, I’ll challenge them again, and again, and again.
You’ll never find me quoting Runner’s World. You’ll not see a Hal Higdon workout on my schedule. Those are great resources for the right group (beginners), but are no service to the highly talented and motivated.
Glen vd. Westhuizen, aka Killer Coach. Jim McLatchie, aka Ball Buster. I want to thank both of these world class coaches for their mentoring and belief in what I do. I put myself through both of their most difficult programs. To not only challenge myself, but so that I might learn. Will Lindgren, aka Run Guru. You want some of this?
Come Get Some!
Peter vd Westhuizen after winning the 2008 Omaha Mile in 3:57 point something. Pete’s dad Glen, aka Killer Coach, has made an indelible impression on Nebraska athletics. His good work will continue……. That has got to be the most monstrous finish line build out I’ve ever used.
