With thanks to Eric Clapton.
I went down to the crossroads
Fell down on my knees
I went down to the crossroads
Fell down on my knees
Asked the Lord above for mercy
Save me if you please
I’ve reached a personal crossroads. Traveled long and hard to get where I stand today. Put in a life’s work in fact.
I went down to the crossroads
Tried to flag a ride
I went down to the crossroads
Tried to flag a ride
Nobody seemed to know me,
Everybody passed me by
A life’s work. Building the USATF LDR Program in Nebraska. If not a life, fifteen years that seems a lifetime.
You can run, you can run
Tell my friend-boy Willie Brown
You can run, you can run
Tell my friend-boy Willie Brown
And I’m standing at the crossroads
Believe I’m sinking down
No longer sinking down, that ship already sunk. Mutineers with no Real Captain.
But to the delight of those that know me best, and to the chagrin of the rest, the SS RUNGURU, full steam ahead, has popped back up like a cork in a tub. Charting new waters. In a vessel tempered by experience and grace. My two hands firmly on the wheel.
Crossroads. Mercy granted.
