I’m probably as interested in the state of road race management as anyone in the United States. Thirty eight years of experience from the local to the national to international events. My colleagues, my peers, those whom I respect the most, we are all struggling with the new reality.
Jim Gerweck got approval to kick off his annual Waveny Trail summer series in CT on June 26th. Hank Brown pulled off a half marathon this past weekend in Kingsport, TN. Two of my oldest buddies figuring this thing out. Two of the most respected leaders in the industry.
Look, things are bound to return to normal. The Good Life Halfsy here in Nebraska opened up regi$tration for their annual 13.1 the first weekend of November. Already runners signing up. My closest thoughts on this best shared over a double Oban, Distiller’s Edition. Here’s a peek though- The old and the weak, they are at the very crux of any discussions. Dispensable, collateral damage? Or worth the extra moment of consideration? I know which camp I’m in. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
