Takes a big guy to admit you’re wrong. So, OK, I’m fessing up.
You can’t blame me for trying. We can only do what we feel is right, and if you believe it with conviction, well, its hard to fault the effort.
But you have spoken and I am at this point, All Ears.
It used to be that a well managed, USATF certified, prize money race would be a big draw. Especially if the scheduling and distance were a perfect match for the fall (marathon) campaign. Its what I grew up with.
Ch-ch-ch-changes.
Our sport, in Nebraska at least, is doing better than ever. The upper crust, defined as the top % of talent, has no need for such things. You have spoken loud and clear.
I suppose there will be one or two (only) that in a couple years will lament the loss of a decent payday for merely running well. A thousand bucks isn’t huge but we worked hard to get it. Big tips to Gretna Family Health for sponsoring 60%, our race director also ponying up 40%. American only. USATF only. You.
Stuff like that mattered back in the day. When runners were hungry for competition and a payday and a course that could actually be used for legitimate advocacy.
But not at this time, not with me. I hear you.
So I appreciate that Luka Thor and Shannon Mauser Suing have no precious metal utensils dangling twixt their lips. Shannon going for a stellar time as she focuses on her fall marathon effort, Luka doing a favor for an old friend.
Wherever you’re running this weekend, I hope it fills your needs, whatever they may be. I thought I knew.
