But before I get to that I want to extend a big Welcome to our newest Nebraska Run Guru Elite athlete. Jessica Pape has raced well this spring and has been a frequent Saturday morning denizen at the Bar None. Jessica has been hitting some Tough workouts with Michel and is cut from the Right stuff. During one run/interview my question regarding her marathon aspirations let me know we have, as Kyle would describe, “A Fire Breather.”
In 2015 NRGE will have at least 3 women under 3 hours. Our future’s so bright, we’ve got to wear shades.
House cleaning item from yesterday. I mentioned all of our top 5 finishers scored personal bests. Only Cameron Cummings did not pr, understandable given his Boston performance 13 days prior.
Coach John Tully, My Dear Sweet Linda, and your humble scribe all participated in the Half Marathon on Sunday. Linda and I there to show support to our NRGE Mates and to Nancy & Gary for their generous support of the Nebraska Running Community. Coach John, well trained @ ~50 miles per week, did himself and the team proud. Agustin Delgado experienced back spasms and opted to take advantage of the half option, his great training cycle of no consequence to the Cruel Mistress that is the marathon.
I had to hop in the porta can just before the 1 mile mark. First time for everything. And to that wonderful fellow around the 4 Mile mark, the platter of crisp, salty bacon was just the extra bit of energy I needed. Bacon Shot will be my new recommendation for Clif Product.
Also ran past the Ben Sasse (Republican running for the Senate) aid station. Grabbed a cup and took a drink before I realized it was Kool Aid. Over the next couple of miles I started pondering the wastefulness of Obama Care, how undeserving the poor are of an increased minimum wage, and appreciating the sensibilities of the Keystone Pipeline. Fortunately, early morning organic waftings from a frat house restored my more liberal ideals.
Nice to catch up with Jordan Tucker. And my former Big Blue Run cohort, Courtney Kuhn.
How about Millad South? Dustin Lewellyn is doing a great job with Reno Law (1:54.12, 4:19.54, 9:21.6) and Katie Spencer (5:00.8, 11:09.15), both young thin clads lead the state with their speed and endurance.
Now is there anybody, got a sweet little woman like mine? Got to be somebody, got a sweet little woman like mine! Can I get a witness? Can I get a witness? Talkin talkin bout my baby, she’s some kind of wonderful, talking bout my baby, she’s some kind of wonderful. My baby! My baby!
