In a dozen years you whippersnappers will be reminiscing about races you’ve run, races you’ve won. None of you will be as freaky fast as the finishers from the 5K Monster Dash held at Chalco Hills in Omaha, October 25, 2012.
Some of the fastest goblins and ghouls in Nebraska state history toed the line. Including a sub 4 minute miler (Peter vd Westhuizen), the American record holder for 1500 and 5K (Shelby Houlihan), and an international class race walker (Chris Tegtmeier), an indoor mile and outdoor 1500 National Champ (Anne Shadle), and an NCAA Indoor Long Jump National Champ (Angee Henry).
So y’all get out there and post them up. You’ll look back on these days as your finest if you choose the right race at the right place.
Peter led most of the race before going off course at the top of the dam, damn! Dig Connie Prince Houlihan’s 18:55 at age 51. I’m suggesting this is the current standing single age record on a USATF Certified course. And a hilly son of a gun, the final climb back to the NRD building known as “Haunted Hill.”
Shelby Houlihan (#608) leads Anne Shadle (#9) into the finish. Two of the greatest runners in the history of Nebraska and beyond. At age 15 Shelby ran 19:48, quite possibly another state record.
BOO!
