A bit more on California International Marathon. Seven US men got under the 2:19:00 standard and an AMAZING 25 US women dipped below the necessary 2:46:00. In an even more amazing example of the depth of the field there were 50 women that went under 2:52:00. Wow! Their future’s so bright, well you know the rest.
I interviewed Bridget last night and while I don’t have my notes, here is a summary. She felt the best she ever has in a marathon. The women’s pack was so huge it was nearly impossible to get water. Many were tangled and tripped. She credits Ann Ringlein for guidance and especially Mike Morgan for providing her with the necessary workouts in order to achieve the historic performance. Mostly tempo workouts in the 6:00-6:10 range. And she gives great cred to her hubby, he deserves a huge hug!
While in St. Louis I caught up with my old buddies Brant Kotch and Steve Karpas, the RDs of the Houston Marathon. When they insisted that I come down next month I told them it all depended on how Bridget did yesterday. Now I’ll be rousing the biggest cheers for both our Nebraska ladies.
Our mate Cheto Cerda returned to Texas for the LaPorte Half Marathon. He led for the first 11 miles before being passed by the eventual winner. Still took 2nd overall in 1:20:36. He was amazed to hear the announcer describing Team Nebraska Brooks and former Texan Will Lindgren doing great things in the heartland with the club, aw shucks.
Lee Anderson tackled the Rock Canyon Half and was ripping right along until a necessary potty break dropped him to 10th, he regained a couple of spots to finish 8th in 1:21 & change, nice work Lee! The course was single track, rough rock and snow, tough guy for a tough course.
Linda & I got out and did one of our final speed sessions this morning, picking our way through the ice patches at Zorinsky. A last set of 200s on Wednesday and we’ll be ready to go! Killer Coach has officially anointed us as Big Dogs.
The 2012 USA Club Track & Field National Championships are July 6-7 at Omaha Burke Stadium. A lot of National Buzz about coming to Omaha, hope you are penciling the date in to come out and support the Good Mates and other local clubs (we are hopefully going to have a couple more Nebraska USATF Clubs in the very near future) as they take on the Very Best clubs from across the U.S.
Giddyup!
