Long time readers please forgive as you’ve likely heard variations of this before: My best bud back in LaPorte, TX was Mike Koepke. We were neighbors, worked and partied together for the better part of a decade. His sister Connie was married to Willie Nelson for 27 years. Every 4th of July we’d get backstage passes to Willie’s Picnic. I got to hang and drink Lone Star and lord knows what else with some of the biggest names in country music and cinema. I know you’re up there smiling down today Mike, thanks for the memories. For at least one day a year I’m still proud to be a Texan as well as an American.
