Its February. Mardi Gras has been so much fun in my life that I tried to bring some to Omaha Octobers with the old Swamp Stomp. A lot of people’s favorite race because of the New Orleans goodies and awards, not the least the signature Cajun gumbo and the Prairie Gators’ Steve Kunasek playing the Star Spangled Banner on accordion.
What will have me hoisting a pint tonight is not the bacchanalian, rather the uplifting effervescence of excellence! The reverie of our mates now having their spring schedules nailed down.
A couple of aces slipping out of my sleeve over the weekend. Unabashed discussions on the history of the Lincoln Half. Talk of Future’s So Bright and with the Have to Wear Shades business.
But the half is only half my giddy that’s up. The full is the same story with our cast of 26.2 characters. I’m watching Jeremy Morris do some incredible training already this year, 420 miles for the month of January. Our newest mate Jeff Gregg, he too cut from the ultra cloth, wasn’t too far behind. Pete Kostelnick will continue to confound everyone by running another big personal best, Cameron Cummings is a former winner and will be returning, masters studs Kray Zeller and Mike Wasson will be tough to beat. Roxi Erickson begins her tutelage under me this coming weekend, sub 3 @ 53 and the masters title! (I’ve taped pictures of her competition to the back of the rest of our mates’ singlets for starters.) And our biggest project for Lincoln will be getting quiet, shy, Amber Sargent first across the line for the women.
So join me tonight
I’m buying the round
With tales of winning
And victories abound
Our NRGE Debs

Will once again be great!
