Just over 5 months into 2014, a little early for declarations, but I do declare!
The New Kids on the Block made a statement at Lincoln. Twenty percent of the top 25 represented the Rainbow that is NRGE. Neihter LRC or Team Nebraska were even close. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Interesting discussion going on about what constitutes “pacing”. It’s like the old Supreme Court litmus for pornography, hard to describe but I know it when I see it. Not everyone will agree but why put yourself in that position to begin with? It darned sure won’t fly in Association Championship events, too many educated runners these days. Tell me to mind my own business? This is my business! You don’t like my opinions? There’s always the Onion.
How about this! Kyle Clouston used a 6:08 22nd mile to drop Wandzi and Ivan Marsh. How bad did he want some yellow and blue and red and white? Really bad.
I held out high hopes for Walter Key. Knew that he was the “wild card” for our mates. Firmly believed that he had an intangible in his back pocket that would motivate to an outstanding race. While all of our top 5 finishers had personal bests (What!?!? Wait!!! Why?!?!!? How?!?!?!) it was Walt that I had my keenest eye on. Walter Key. Father. Husband. U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer. Mate. Real. 2:46:53. The first person (actually tied with Kyle) to let me know that They Run For Me, not some kit. I had figured Walt just where he finished. Two seconds ahead of my lifetime personal best and good enough for 3rd NRGE finisher. He Raced Lincoln for his Team and his Leader. Walt, NRGE will certainly miss you, I’ll miss you more.
Walter with Pete and Stacy. Did I mention that every one of our marathoners won an age group award. Stacy displays her 1st 45-49 in the Half.
