Tough day for some, big runs for some. But first off a huge thank you to Nancy Sutton Moss, Gary Bredehoft, their local organizing committee, volunteers, Lincoln Track Club, and the City of Lincoln for hosting the 34th annual yesterday.
The results didn’t shake out as predicted. That’s why we run these darned things to begin with, to test the mettle, but some days you’ve got it, and some days you don’t. Our top TNB mates Tom Nichols (4th- 2:32:58) and Kaci Lickteig (4th- 2:58:14) will still have to pursue their Olympic Trials qualifier on another day as it just wasn’t their day. And man o’ man, it sure wasn’t mine either.
Going to single out just a few superlatives. Maybe the race of the day was by our TNB Registration Chair and Technical Coordinator, Jody Green. Jody ran a 3 minute pr coming in at 3:44:29. Why is that so impressive? Because she ran a 20 miler the day before as part of her build up to the Leadville 50 Miler.
Matt Gerard (7th- 2:39:15), James McGown (8th- 2:40:19), Bryan Felker (10th- 2:42:52), Justin Mollak (2:45:09), Tim Langdon (2:45:09) joined Tom with top finishes. I wish I could have been in the stadium to see friends and training partners Justin & Tim finish together, true teamwork! Matt Seiler made his marathon debut in a very nice 2:47:41 to win the 20-24 age group.
Natalie Jetensky won the Masters title 3:18:27, Stacy Shaw won the Masters Half title 1:31:12. Kraig Vanderbeek won the Men’s Masters Half in 1:19:53.
In the Open Half Marathon Bridget Easley ran a big pr to finish 2nd in 1:21:29. Kayte Tranel was 3rd in 1:21:58, Emily Kraus pr’d as well for 5th in 1:24:15 and Jen Viehrig was 9th in 1:27:04 to round out the top females. The Men’s Half saw Eric Rasmussen 2nd in 1:08:50, Matt Pohren 3rd in a pr 1:09:40, and Kyle Smith also prd finishing 8th in 1:12:02.
Kudos to all for giving it their best efforts. More recaps as the week flows.
Your scribe had an almost 40 minute personal worst marathon performance coming home in 4:14:13. I’ve gained a new appreciation for just how tough it is to be on a course that long, my last 10K was over 90 minutes and 300 people passed me. I’m not sure I’ve ever suffered as much voluntarily. Thanks so much to Nancy Sutton Moss for being there to greet me and to the kind words I’ve heard from you all.
