I lived in Lake Jackson, Texas from 1992-1995. Clute was right next door, ala Millard to Omaha if you will. I would go see a young lady sing her heart out at Clute’s Texas Mosquito Festival. Her name was Selena and she would become the greatest Latin/Pop crossover in history.
A couple miles down the road was Angelton. A trio of young ladies would sing locally, we knew they too were something special. DC3 (Destiny’s Child) was their name. Lead singer? Beyonce.
And speaking of Texas, the following from Billie Kay Melanson of Beaumont warmed my heart yesterday. Hopefully someday I’ll be remembered as fondly locally: “Will, some of my favorite race memories are the Brazosport 10 miler . You put on a spectacular event. Joe, James Lawrence and Gerardo made several trips out that way. We always geared up for that race because you made it mean something! You knew what runners liked and you catered to us. Thanks Will for those memories.”
The Ni-Bthaska-Ke Trail Run is happy to announce our newest Community Sponsor, Celerion Applied Translational Medicine. Important clinical research making a difference!
We’re already at 50 entries for Ni-Bthaska-Ke with runners from 4 states entered. With over 3 months until the event we are on pace to smash our previous turnout record.
Major Sponsorship announcement coming Monday. Linda says “This is huge!”
Thanks to whomever on Team Nebraska that is putting the club records together, something I always carry around in my head and heart. I haven’t been asked so maybe I shouldn’t speak, but if you would like for me to fill in the holes you know how to reach me. I haven’t forgotten a single performance during my tenure as El Presidente and Chief Instigator. They deserve to be listed.
Selena’s duet with David Byrne (Talking Heads) titled “Baila Conmigo” (God’s Child): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhUokZKExcA Her voice one of the most beautiful sounds my ears have ever absorbed. And a face as angelic as her pipes. Murdered by her deranged business manager just as she made the jump, one of the tragic stories in music.
Beyonce Knowles in her less provocative days.
