I’m on my way to my highest weekly mileage total in 10 years. Feeling strong as an ox too. I finally hopped on the scale this morning and was shocked to see that I was tipping in at 144 pounds. That is up a full 10 pounds from my summer training weight.
I’m always accustomed to putting on a layer of winter fat to keep the old bones warm. This year’s temps haven’t necessitated that though. And there is something very muscular going on in my legs. My jeans are fitting tighter and I’m seeing new development where there wasn’t so much before. Being in this crucible of Killer Coach’s is yielding some unexpected and appreciated results.
I’ve always considered myself a foodie, whether in the kitchen or as a roving gourmand. I’m no Andrew Zimmern (Bizarre Foods) but do pride myself on being adventurous. There’s not much I won’t eat at least once. Being able to train and eat to my heart’s content makes me a very happy boy.
One place you won’t catch me eating though is at a fast food joint. Long before Morgan Spurlock’s “Super Size Me” or Robert Kenner’s “Food Inc.” I have steered clear of the over processed, over promoted, mystery items foisted on today’s gullible palate’s. Also one of the most important lessons I’ve imparted on my own children, it makes me proud that they too know better.
Coincidentally from this morning’s Lincoln Journal Star:
” The Mexican-style fast-food chain referred to only as “Restaurant A” in a report on a recent outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is Taco Bell, Food Safety News reported.
Suspected since the CDC’s outbreak report was issued Jan. 19, confirmation that Taco Bell was central to the investigation came in a document from the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s Acute Disease Service.Oklahoma, with 16 cases, was second only to Texas, with 43 cases in the outbreak. Nebraska reported one case, a man is his 60s from Douglas County, according to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. He ate at a Mexican-style fast-food chain, became ill, was hospitalized and recovered, said department spokeswoman Leah Bucco-White.CDC declined to identify Taco Bell initially, saying there was no public health reason to do so. At the time of its report, CDC said 68 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Enteritidis had been reported from 10 states. If you are in a hurry, on the road, or not comfortable in the kitchen there are always healthful alternatives. Great place here to plug SUBWAY ; )
So eat up! Be strong! Be healthy! And, be able to identify what you are putting between your teeth and gums!
