Zoom, zoom! Linda and I have kind of entered the future. Gaining proficiency in online meetings, one to several per week. Since his return from measuring the Tokyo Olympic course I’ve spent several hours with David Katz, IAAF “A” rated course measurer. Going over our course with a fine tooth comb. Taking the very best measures if you will. The serious debate goes on whether Valley O.NE is the “World’s Flattest Marathon” or simply “O.NE of the World’s Flattest Marathons”. Top experts are weighing in and it looks more and more like our claim will stand. Dubai may be flatter but is invitation only, not an open marathon, a critical distinction.
Our weekly meetings with the Omaha Sports Commission led by OSC Events Director Lindsay Toussant. Brainstorming, problem solving, dreaming. Everyone on our team sharing the same vision. To introduce a professionally managed event geared towards America’s most serious runners. Those that train with a purpose, whether it be a 2:10 or 5 hours. With small town charm. And a field limited to 500 runners.
Josh Todd is the OSC Executive Director. To remind, the OSC is responsible for bringing the USA Olympic Curling Trials and USA Olympic Swim Trials to the metro area. Expect a major announcement regarding the Valley O.NE connection to Tokyo in the next few days.
Great news out of the just concluded USATF annual meetings. The USA Club Council, has been revived. As Vice-Chair in 2012 I was able to bring the USA Club T&F National Championships to Burke Stadium in Omaha. Discussions have already begun to resurrect the USA Club Marathon Road Relay National Championships on the roads of western Douglas County. Our desire to feature the very best clubs and athletes from around the United States at the very heart of the effort.
We invite you to join us at one of the most ambitious marathon’s in the United States. Be a part of Nebraska history! Registration is open, http://valleyonemarathon.com/registration/
Team Nebraska was 4th best in the U.S. in 2006. Something for LRC Racing to aspire to. Always one of my favorite events, I’ll be working hard to bring this race back and bring it here!
The best known marathon in the United States yet to fire a starter’s pistol, poised and ready for April 24th at 6:30 a.m. in downtown Valley.
