There has been a hue and cry for Team Nebraska to set up a full time kids training/racing component. Quite a few middle schoolers from Gretna, Russell, and Beadle are enjoying our Wednesday night Expert coaching and the ranks swell every week. One of our basic missions is to provide for the youth in Nebraska and we are thrilled that it is being so well received by both the kids and parents. It is so important to make sure these youngsters are getting proper instruction on how to make running part of their entire lives, and we are honored that we are being trusted with part of that development.
Jared Shuurmans has joined TNB and will make a fine addition to our Weight guys. Jared is currently ranked 14th in the U.S. in the Hammer and will contest both USA Nationals and USA Club Nationals in the Red & White.
Peter Snell won the 1960 Olympic 800 meters title. He repeated that in 1964 and also took Gold in the 1500 Meters. Snell went on to get his Phd. in Exercise Physiology and works at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center in Dallas. He was another student of the legend Arthur Lydiard. His book “no bugles no drums” was titled by a female editor. As the principles were searching for the best title, the editor quipped that “there are no bugles and no drums in this book, and Viola!
I’m hoping that these postings will inform you as to not only the historical giants of our sport, but what has shaped my opinions and expectations of excellence in running and racing.
