I went in for some dry needling on this cantankerous hammy yesterday. Jennifer is one of only a couple dry needling practitioners in Omaha. Excited to get out and run this morning.
Going to be very tough for me this Saturday. In 1967 I attended the only college football game of my life. I grew up ~25 miles from Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois. Dad took me and I was overwhelmed by the many thousands gathered. The beginnings of my claustrophobia in crowds. Being packed into any situation where I don’t have complete control of movement gives me the heebie jeebies.
I need room to Run!
So I won’t be at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln this weekend. And as an Illini fan turned Longhorn fan turned Cornhusker fan I’ll be wishing both the Huskers and Illini success. But I’ll likely smile just a little bigger if my original homeboys emerge victorious.
The Twin Cities Marathon is this weekend. Used to be one of my favorite marathons in the U.S. I still love the running community up there but the race will forever have a “special” place in my biography. Race Director Virginia Brophy Achman was the Women’s LDR Chair during the last part of my term as Women’s National Championships Chair. Strong business acumen, the only chink in her armour being just a touch of gullibility. That’s what I have to say.
Went ahead and painted up the West loop for last night’s 5K Time Trial. Marked every 1/4 mile for your training pleasures. You’re welcome.
Those people you saw flying by last night. The times were fast enough to win most of the local 5Ks, both Kyle (and Jerrod) & Lindsey (and Linda) showed why they are the Right Stuff for Nebraska Run Guru Elite.
Twin Cities bills itself as the “Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America”. If you’ve ever been up there you likely agree. This poster from 2002 has some historic names on it. None more dastardly than that cheat Eddy Hellebuyck. He was the overall winner, as a master, and later admitted to doping during this period. His name and records have been removed from the books. Nothing more despicable to me than a masters runner that resorts to drugs. Shame be upon them! At least there is testing at our US Masters Championships. They won’t catch everyone but we can only hope.
