A departure from my accustomed routine this morning. Early a.m. at the Millard West track, already 70 and sticky when I got there. I switched the Time Trial to the 6-4-2 workout and that went pretty darned good, 9:49 for 1.5, 6:26 for 1.0, and 3:15 for 800. Would have liked to finish faster but I did that final effort without looking at the watch, going by feel. All right at 5K race pace so I’m pleased.
I met with a client at 6:30 this morning and am learning (re-learning) some of the basic joys of new found fitness. She continues to make the expected Great Strides that are encountered when just beginning. Think about your first steps, how difficult they seemed, but how you improved dramatically for the first year or two. There is a whole lot of something special happening during this phase and it is refreshing to see it in another’s face. I’m encouraging her to enjoy, have fun, and even Smile during her workouts. All while crossing that threshold into painland, she’s accepting that invitation with more ease every day.
John Tully met me for the speed work. At the conclusion I spoke of pain to him too. Two old farts out there busting their humps in front of nobody. Seeking and enduring that limit for our own solitary purpose, that same grudging Smile, reward for tasking ourselves as we would allow no other to.
This afternoon David Adams will be running with, and then speaking to, the Arlington High School Cross Country kids. He’s swinging by for some swag to pass out so if you are lucky you’ll score something nice from TNB.
Good luck to all of our Wednesday night friends that will be competing in the Hy-Vee Triathlon this weekend. Special speedy wishes to Kathy Rongner Palmer, Danielle Galvin, Enita Larsen, Amee Rief, Tony Underwood, Shawn Kellis and anyone else that is going to bust up some personal bests!
Be the envy of the Tailgate Crowd! How would you like to roll up to the first Husker’s game in a true Nebraska Classic? Offered here is what I call the Ultimate Husker Mobile. 1973 Delta 88 Royale, full power, 72K original miles, 455 Rocket engine, red over white, 8 track (I was jamming to Willie Nelson’s “Always On My Mind” just last night). Always garaged, original service manual and maintenance records. Listing at $9,500 but will entertain any serious offers. Shoot me an email at [email protected] if interested.
