A lot of ground to cover so let’s go!
DC West Invitational held at Sycamore Farms. Known as “Junkstock”, I’ve dubbed it the DC West Speedway. The Falcons didn’t disappoint taking both titles in dramatic fashion. Senior Ryan McArdle took the “W” in 17:44. Boystown took the next two spots with Gavin Smith (17:46) and Leini Poindexter (17:52.79) edging freshman Gus Lampe of Roncalli Catholic (17:52.88). Making a very close team battle, the Falcons with 34– Sophomore Parker Gaston 7th, 18:42, freshman Ed DeLashmutt 11th, 18:59, and freshman Jack Runde 15th in 19:03. B’Town with 37 points by going 2-3-9-23, whew!
The Falcon lasses continued their domination with a mere 16 points like this- freshman Olivia Malousek 2nd, 21:50, freshman Maria Malousek 3rd, 22:06, sophomore Ellie McCarville 4th, 22:09, senior Abigail Aydt 7th, 22:35, and Morgan Morrison 9th, 22:44. The second meet in a row with the girls placing 5 in the top 10. The most exciting race of the day turned in by Falcon 7th grader Addison Strong, holding off a hard charging Hailey O’Daniel of Arlington, a nail biter 10:04.13 to 10:04.35. Double whew!!
The Gretna Invite showed good running chops (21 points) by the hosts with the fellas being led by Cade Suing in 17:10 for the win. Teammate Colby Erdcamp 2nd in 17:27, Connor Reeson 5th in 17:51, Evan Liewer 6th in 17:53, and Abdul Malik Rahmanzai 7th in 17:57. The Dragon ladies also were tops with a stellar 22 points. Addy Walker 2nd in 21:14, Regan Ehlert 3rd in 21:30, Lilly Brophy 4th in 21:55, Anna Speer 6th in 22:29, and Skyler Ueding 7th in 22:31. My favorite for the Dragons, Bailey Stender 8th in 22:36, I’ve known her since she was a mere tot at our Kids Fit Program.
Beatrice hosted the Sod Buster Shuffle, Tri County (23) edging their hosts (27). Boys winner Tommy Lokken in 17:36.74. If history serves Tommy will become one of the best runners to ever represent Wilber. A fella named Tracy Lokken used to run for me on Team Nebraska, he was from Wilber. He would become one of the top masters runners in the Untied States.
At the Gering Invite brother and sister act Payton Seiler, 1st in 17:51 and Madison Seiler 4th for the lasses in 22:05.
At Boone Central the gals took their title with 27 points (3-5-8-11), Pierce’s Mason Sindelar took the win for the guys in a nice 15:52, leading his mates to the team title with 37 points (1-5-10-21).
The Charlie Thorell Invite in Seward had some great racing. Omaha Skutt Senior Jaedan Bunda ran a very fast 18:47 for the win. Omaha Marian (27 points) taking the women’s team title. Liem Chot (15:55) and Grant Wasserman (16:28) took the top two spots to lead Lincoln Northstar to the team win with 25 points.
And finally, the Schuyler Invite was a barn burner with Schuyler (32 points), Columbus Lakeview (33 points) and my own Wahoo (38 points) making it the most competitive fella’s race of the weekend. For the ladies North Bend Central led the way with a tiny 16 points (2-3-5-6).
And that folks is a wrap for today. Stay tuned for a surprise guest scribe in tomorrow’s RGS.
