Picture postcard childhood memories. Checkered blanket, basket full of fried chicken, baseball and gloves. Moultrie-Douglas County fair, the Zipper and the Ferris Wheel, the carneys, the sideshows- “No Arms! No Legs! No Bones In Her Body!”, calliopes and go-rounds and salt water taffy and cotton candy and corn dogs (heaving those on Barb Taylor on the roller coaster- not all memories are classic).
Sundown, necks craning skyward, hush before the big show. Moms and dads and kids and cousins oohing and aahing and applauding while wolfing down the last of the apple pie.
In 1986 Frenchman Jean Michel Jarre brought his laser/pyrotechnic wizardry to Houston, utilizing the skyline as the mainframe of the show, the most amazing fireworks I’ve ever witnessed.
