Life isn’t, nor should it be, all puppy dogs, sweet music, roses, and lace. You spend enough days above the good green grass and there are bound to be times that try your soul. Times that call for pause and reflection of what might have been done differently, searching for answers that likely just aren’t there. Living can sneak up on you that way, jolting you into the reality that it isn’t always easy. Yes, this morning I’m your melancholy baby, and with good reason, I’m only human after all. Live long enough and you realize that heartache is inevitable. We all will experience it, don’t kid yourself, even right here in West Mayoville. The real beauty and poignancy of living however is not the middle path, rather those punctuations of uplifting highs and painful lows. But don’t cry for me Argentina. If you do travel a broad middle path, are centered in what you believe to be right and just, the spikes of circumstance, while hurting, only embed so far. And thus we continue to be grateful for another morning, another chance to do that one thing that might help ourselves become more enlightened and to help others do the same. This then is the Bright Side. The opportunity to help others. Our family, our friends, our community.
So I’ll move to some good works to bring today’s tenor back to a more even keel. I’m proud of those that give of themselves, selflessly and tirelessly, towards a better and brighter future for those around them. And as is typical for a Thursday, that means Coach John Tully and Coach Linda. Our Omaha Endurance Group and Kids Fit Program certainly embody that spirit of service, I am proud and uplifted every Wednesday evening to see the camaraderie and good fellowship of those gathered.
Over 30 adults attended last night’s workouts. The real beauty lies in the wide range of abilities all sharing a common desire for fitness and fun. Shoes optional, right Steve?
Linda had the kids do a 100 meter dash at the end of the evening, a highlight for all. I’m thinking there’s a future Team Nebraska star in there somewhere.
I’m also very proud of my dear sweet Katie (right) and her bff Keigon for their efforts with Coach Linda. Modeling good works and deeds to the next generation is an important aspect of volunteerism. The Bright Side.
