I’m taking the requisite time off after Sunday’s effort. Lots of healing taking place, both physiologically and psychologically. Making good use of the free time as the morels are really popping right now. I’m also sitting down with a few good reads. At the Marathon expo I shared a table with Derek Fey who was selling his book “We Were Born To Run”. Interesting read with Derek’s unique perspective and writing style.
Another book I’ve read before, but am purusing for some forgotten gems. Allan Lawrence won the Bronze Medal at the 1956 Olympic 10000 meters clocking 28:53. He was a co-founder of the Houston Harriers (along with my coaching mentor Jim McLatchie and 1500 meter Olympian Leonard Hilton-TNB is based loosely on the Houston Harriers) and later the Al Lawrence Running Club. He has coached 100s of athletes in Houston over the last decades but perhaps his most lasting impression may be his books “The Self Coached Runner” and “Running and Racing After 35”.
And I’m digging “Outlaw Tales of Nebraska” by T.D. Griffith.
The Partners for Meth Prevention is sponsoring a four mile and one mile Fun Run on Saturday at Chalco Hills. Sign in will begin at 7:45 a.m. and the race will begin at 8:30. Entry fees are $20 and will benefit Meth Awareness Month in Iowa and Nebraska. I’m going to go out and support this event, you too can do something for others during your post marathon recovery.
Justin Mollak and Tim Langdon were both timed in 2:45:09 at the Lincoln Marathon. Good buddies and training partners celebrate the fruits of their prs.
