Hopefully my busiest day of the year yesterday. Thanks for sticking with me through today’s column.
Starting off like I did at 4:15 a.m. yesterday morning, with the Freedom Run. Low riding. On the back of a trailer setting out 13.1 miles of cones. Lead bike for the women, a treat to watch Shannon run personal bests through 10K (37:41), 10 Miles (1:01:23) and 20K (1:17:00). Built for speed, both her and the course. She took the W (1:21:14) and 2nd overall behind Luka 1:11:06. A lot of good performances, personal favorite being my charge Sam Runde taking the 5K overall in a pr 19:38. He’s 13 folks, catch him if you can. Or maybe 49 y/o Stacy Shaw’s 1:31:40.
Next. USATF Nebraska Association annual meeting from 2-4:30. Seriously? For all the fervor, rancor, shenanigans and BS that has been tossed in the last year only 4 LDR people bothered to show up. Not an election year, demonstrates who really cares and how much. LDR Chair Peter Falcon (elected in abstenia last year) unable to attend again this year. I presented a hastily crafted LDR report to the entire gathering and then chaired the LDR breakout meeting as Peter’s proxy. Biggest takeaways of the meeting for me? Per the association’s membership chair report, no increase in USATF LDR memberships over the last year. And an association demerit from the national office for not having LDR communications on our website, despite repeated requests from the webmaster. Say what? Colin Morrissey served as the LDR meeting’s secretary. Look for his minutes later today at http://www.usatf.org/associations/info.asp?associationNumber=29
Next. Quick trip to Lincoln for our initial Board of Directors meeting for Nebraska Run Guru Elite. We’ve got a big fan and supporter as our attorney. He led the meeting, expediting an otherwise cumbersome process, final details approved, ever so close now.
Finally. Zip Line Brewing Co. opening their doors and taps for Pete Kostelnick’s Badwater fete. So many of our mates taking time from their own busy schedules to make it out for the toast, much appreciated. And we welcome our newest mate Bryan Sypal. A long time favorite of mine, we’re proud to have him in the family. Back home by 10 pm. This Running Life, My Life.
No significant results from the Wabash Trace Marathon on Saturday. Cory Logsdon’s 2:51:19 a yawner by 15 minutes over 2nd.
For all the ballyhoo surrounding the venerable Buffalo Run, some historically pedestrian times. Same with the Corporate Cup. Where are all the Real Racers these days? Trevor Vidlak at least running a competitive mile in Minnesota.
And for some reason I get a text decrying the women’s overall winner from the Corporate Cup. I had missed that she had been busted for performance enhancing drugs. http://www.livewellnebraska.com/fitness/officials-ban-omaha-triathlete-from-ironman-events-after-positive-drug/article_c6fc79b6-9b71-11e4-9c4c-5f1862c6ddc4.html There is a close circle of this crap, only 1 degree of separation you might say. The common theme being feigned ignorance or “necessary” for any number of reasons I’ve heard a hundred times. If you know you are taking testosterone you know you are cheating period.
Thanks for bearing with me on today’s extended version of RGS!
