Back in the day you might not ever find out race results. Seriously. If you had to leave prior to the awards ceremony, it was likely that you’d have to wait until next month’s edition of Runner Triathlete News to see anything official. And not that many races bothered to post them up. The big races too (to Real fans at any rate) such as the Crim 10 Miler, Cascade Run Off 15K, Cow Harbor 10K, BIX 7 Miler, etc. were severely lacking in adequate post race coverage. In the late 90s for our national championships I would still gather hard copies of results, find a business center, and fax them to our national office.
We don’t have flying cars yet, but you can get your race results on the fly.
If you have a favorite runner, let’s say a Cory Logsdon, running Twin Cities Marathon this weekend, and you want to get text messages on his progress, all you need do is go to www.tcmevents.org and sign up for athlete tracking. And if you wanted to follow Natalie Como or Agustin Delgado or Suzanne Higgins at the Chicago Marathon, you just have to go to www.chicagomarathon.com, simple directions, even I was able to sign up.
The National Distance Running Hall of Fame has 3 new inductees. Don Kardong, Bob Schul, and my old buddy Greg Meyer. Congratulations to all three deserving gentlemen.
Didn’t get in to Market to Market? The 1st annual St. Auggies HETRA Ranch Run will be next Saturday, October 13th. http://www.sainta.net/Pages/RACE.aspx From the website:
St. Auggies HETRA Ranch Run is a 1 mile family fun run, a super fast 5k and a challenging 10k. All three distances will include both road and trail run aspects. Approximately half of each distance will be ran on the horse trails surrouding the Skyline Ranch neighborhood and half will be on the black tops weaving through the neighborhood. The horse trails are well maintained, wide and grass covered, the roads will be closed during the race to ensure safety. Come out and take in the beautiful trails and spectacular homes while you run. I dig their race motto: “Follow the road apples, just don’t step on them!”
The event is being created and hosted by the St. Augustine Episcopal Church and is meant to be a fundraiser. The proceeds will be shared with the Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy (HETRA).
The Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy (HETRA) is a non-profit organization located just outside of Omaha in Valley Nebraska. HETRA is a NARHA Premier Accredit Therapeutic Riding Center that serves adults and children with disabilities. Their goals include include improving the quality of life those with disabilities through equine assisted activities. More information can be found at http://www.hetra.org.
