Here are a few gems to help get you to our start line at the “World’s Flattest Marathon!”
You should be rotating through at least two pair of trainers, add another pair for speed work and if you’re rolling in it a pair of dedicated racing flats.
You should have a really good idea of your honest target time(s). Thrice aspiring, three goals if you will. Your “A” level goal should be Racing to Your Potential. Your near to perfect race. Your personal best! Your “B” level goal is what you reasonably hope to run, given your training. What you will be happy with and proud of. It will leave you hungry for your next attempt. Your “C” level goal is what it is. You’ve completed the distance, your hardest marathon to date. You’re beat up and feel like hell. Others will wonder why you do this. You know the answer.
Mental Rehearsal. The Mind is the Athlete. Train your mind and your body will follow. You’ve got to experience it in training to execute it on race day. Learn your body’s response to increased stress levels. Be honest with yourself. And from my dear sweet Linda just now- “Know When To Stop!” She is correct, the human spirit is often stronger than the flesh.
And most importantly today, Giddyup!
