Ran my 20 miler yesterday, the 15th and final Andrew Jackson of the training cycle. It was tough following the hills in KC on Saturday but got it done. Whew! It is with nostalgia and a certain sadistic humour that I see our mates Jeff Nielsen and Dylan Wilson kick off their Killer Coach training cycles this very morning. Both of these guys are on the very short list of runners that have completed the full McLatchie Method program, I wasn’t surprised at all that they wanted to give Killer a go. Going to be fun watching them suffer, ahem, I mean improve, results to come….
Andrew Jacob (18th, 1:10:13), Shain Kephart (22nd, 1:11:25) and Agustin Delgado (1:25:03- a 9 minute pr!) raced Dam to Dam 20K this weekend. Our Team Nebraska distance depth is amazing. And how about 50 year old John Mirth running a 1:08:51 for the 12.4 miles, 5:32 pace! Agustin will be racing the Marathon to Marathon this coming weekend and we wish him great racing, good luck, and Giddyup!
Steve Stender (33:27) and Joy Shulz (2nd overall, 34:46) raced the NE5, Nebraska’s RRCA 5 Mile State Champs.
Nicole Nelson finished 4th overall and 1st in her age group at the Omaha Women’s Triathlon. We had a bunch of Omaha Endurance Group mates compete too, I’ll cover those Wednesday. David Seevers is being hailed as a hero for saving the life of an unconscious swimmer, dove in and rescued her 50 yards from shore. Just wow! Cade Pearson also had a cool head and helping hand in the effort. We are proud of both of these guys! Danielle Galvin had a nasty bike crash but is recovering. Triathletes, I’ve always said they are some of the toughest cats I know.
Kelly Crawford attended the USATF Level I Coaching Certification class in Rockbrook, IL.
It was great catching up with Creigh Kelly down in KC this past weekend. Creigh owns BK Productions and travels the country as a race announcer/organizer, is one of the most eloquent men I’ve ever met, former USATF Men’s LDR Chair, and was the nominee for my much cherished Scott Hamilton Award back in 2004. His nomination was based on my work founding the Nebraska Association LDR program and establishing Team Nebraska. We had a nice discussion about the state of road racing today.
