Linda, Desi and I celebrate living in Indiahoma one year tomorrow. While we were itinerant residents for much of 2022 we officially moved in November 2. Happy anniversary!
Much of last winter was spent doing demo on the “Baker” side of the house. By late spring of we were able to secure a very good contractor. Working from the bottom up Moway & Terry bolstered the floors, framed to specs, drywalled and more. Big tips also to Mr. Sparky, Whitehead Plumbing, Carpet One and Comanche Home Center, and Moonlight Mechanical for new infrastructure. Linda did all the caulking, painting and touch ups. I’ll finish the last of the craftsman style trim for completion today! Our accelerated plans will have the complete remodel done on day 365.
In our free time we hosted the first annual “We Are Indiahoma 5K, 1 Mile, & Stroll” in April. Free entry, t-shirt, cowbell, and breakfast for all kids 18 & under, we had over 60 littles. And donated $500 to Indiahoma Public Schools and to the Indiahoma Volunteer Fire Department. The 2nd annual will be coming in April 2024.
Putting down roots. This spring we planted 2 figs, 2 cherries, grapes, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, 2 apples, 2 plum, 2 peach, 1 pear, 3 black tulip magnolias, 2 spartan junipers, 1 sugar tyme crabapple, 3 lilacs, 3 blue cypress, 3 roses (red, salmon, yellow), 5 purple fountain grasses, 1 honeysuckle, 2 mums, flower garden, cactus garden, and a larder stoking vegetable garden.
I found dad’s sand plum thicket and was granted local apricot privileges.
I’ve learned volumes of Lindgren family history from the bloated archives that is the barn.
We became members of the Indiahoma First Baptist Church, have attended most all of the Town Board Meetings, enjoyed monthly repast at the Senior Citizen Lunch.
We suffered through spring chiggers, summer scorpions, sundry spiders, slinky snakes, and more critters and varmints than these Nebraskans could expect. Score scorpions 2, Linda 0.
And most recently established the Indy-Pendent News to bring my Indy-Pendent views.
We moved here to honor the memory of dad and grandma Katie. We stay here because of the people!
Big thanks to Bob and Horn Sanitation for the curbside trash pickup last Saturday! And for scheduling yesterday’s collection until after tricks or treats. Now if we can just get the District 32 campaign signs picked up! The election was October 10th and signs still litter our roadways, tsk, tsk!
The 56 acre parcel located at Indiahoma Road and Quanah Parker sold at auction Saturday morning. Smith Dhaiti of Lawton was the winning bidder at $153,000 ($2,750/acre) and that folks will turn out to be a steal of a deal in your scribe’s opinion. Mr. Dhaiti indicates he has “a few plans” for the property. How about “Back Door To The Wichitas _________” (fill in the blank).
Recent heavy rains destroyed Gore Blvd approaching Bandy.
Thanks to County Commissioner Josh Powers for throwing some rock on the same stretch.
