You either 1) Train to Race, or 2) you train for every other reason there is for running. All equally valid to the individual.
The Fifth Third River Bank Run 25K will be held this Saturday. My favorite event of the USATF LDR National Championships calendar. Typically held the second week in May, another scheduling aberration due to the virus. Beautiful course, first class competition, Greg Meyer, the Amway Grand Hotel providing unparalleled hospitality. Proving ground for America’s developing athletes.
The big news here in the Good Life is in Kearney tomorrow. The State Cross Country meet promises to be as competitive as any year in recent memory. Some clear favorites that will be chasing their own Class titles. Allow me a moment of reverie, daydreaming of gathering the best of each class to test themselves against each other, not limited to class designation. That would be something special indeed. One of the goals of the Nebraska Trail Run at Lake Wanahoo is to host just such a meet.
Build It and They Might Come? Invitations have been extended to the Lincoln Running Company Racing, Kansas City Smoke, Iowa RunAblaze, and a few talented unattached athletes. Perfectly positioned as a tune up for the USA Club Cross National Championships in Tallahassee first week of December.
The Good Life Halfsy is on Sunday. That’s a half marathon for those outside of Nebraska. I’m hoping Ben brings in some talent to chase the Half Marathon Nebraska State Soil marks that were posted at Valley ONE Half and the Lincoln Half earlier this year.
*Valley ONE’s World Athletics Federation Certified Course allowed for male and female state records at 5K, 10K, 15K, 20K, Half Marathon, and Marathon distances. Rory Linkletter and Stephanie Bruce set all time bests at 5K (14:18, 16:13), 10K (29:00, 32:34), 15K (44:27, 49:23), 20K (1:00:29, 1:06:19) and Half Marathon (1:03:57, 1:09:55). 8 women under the previous state half record. Top 6 men under 1:06, top 10 men under 1:07. ** Dominic Korir recaptured the men’s half record at Lincoln 8 days after Valley ONE.
